Chinook Salmon are running in good numbers in Oak Orchard, Upper New York.
Posted on October 5th, 2009I had a chance to check-out the Oak Orchard, Upper NY today to see how the Chinook Salmon run was doing and as expected there are lot’s of fish already up to the dam. I watched about 50-people hook and loose salmon continuously. Most were drifting with either spawn-sacks are artificial eggs. The average size fish was 15-25 lb., and I saw one gentlemen catch about an 8 lb. brown trout. I met people that had travelled from various US destinations to take advantage of the salmon run. A gentlemen even has a fish-cleaning station set up near the river. He charges $3US to clean a salmon & $20US if you want it smoked. When I was there there was a line-up of anglers getting their catches cleaned and some getting them smoked also. I’ll be heading out there early tomorrow and fishing for them with a Spey fly rod and conventional fly rod. Look forward to my Blog-update.
