After seeing Aldo on Saturday and the catch he had with his guest we decided to book a charter and fish with our good friends Izzy and Shoshana who have been visiting with us from Florida. We fish regularly with Izzy when we are in Florida since they are our neighbours. Izzy & Shoshana are experienced anglers having fished much experience fishing off of the US eastern-seaboard for bluefish, stripers and much more!
We started our day at 7:30 and Aldo had all the Rapala rods and reels rigged with the right Sufix Performance leadcore lines, Luhr Jensen spoons + had the planer boards ready to put to work! Aldo has had his Niagara Fishing Adventures charter business for about 2-decades and really knows his fishing. Whether he takes guests out on Lake Ontario on his 30’+ charter boat, or his 21′ center consul boat on the Niagara River and Lake Erie, he always produces fish!!
Water conditions were flat and within 5 min. of trolling we hooked up the first fish. Our guests where up to fight the first fish hooked and they had a blast.
Next, Shoshana within minutes hooked up on another trophy Chinook which she fought using the Rapala Classic Mooching rod & reel. This was her first time using a “mooching” reel and within seconds of being coached on how to use the outfit Shoshana had no problems fighting and landing her fish like a pro!
My wife Barbara hooked her fish just as Shoshana was landing hers so it made it an official “double-header”. Her salmon ended up being the biggest fish landed on our charter weighing in just under 20 lb.!!
The Sufix Performance Leadcore line again performed well and produced most of our fish. We also caugth salmon off the downriggers, but the leadcore lines fished 5-colors out (about 50 yds), produced the most fish!!
We ended up landing a mix of good-size Chinooks, intermediate Chinooks, some “shakers” (under 2 lb.), and one prime Coho salmon.
The action was really non-stop and we must have landed about a dozen fish.
We started fishing a soon as we got out of the harbor from Port Dalhousie, ON in 30′ of water and all the way out to about 60′ of water. All of the fish were caught in the upper water column using the . The best trolling speed was 2.5-3 mph. The Rapala Hydros reels also performed well since we knew the exact amount of line we had out so we could set-up to the same distance to consistently catch salmon!
If you would like to take advantage of our great spring conditions and excellent salmon fishing Lake Ontario has to offer make sure to contact Aldo at Niagara Fishing Adventures , and book a trip!
