There’s a good reason why some of the most successful Great Lakes salmon charter operators have so many outfits rigged and ready for action. These include; long-line, high capacity counter reels & Sufix Performance Leadcore, copper or stainless steel lines (to get the lures down and several hundred feet from the boat), planer boards that can troll lines up to 30′ out the sides of the boat, downrigger rods loaded with monofilament and braided lines, and rods equipped with diving devices like the Luhr Jensen Dipsey Diver. Believe it or not, running an assortment of the above quickly gives the charter boat operator a good idea of how the fish are feeding, at what depth, and at what distance from the boat. Once they catch 1-3 fish on a consistent presentation they change all the other rods to the same rigs/lures. Having rods ready to go with different presentations can make a big difference to your Great Lakes salmon & trout fishing success!
