Channel Cats on-the-move.
Posted on October 22nd, 2016Every fall channel catfish congregate in high numbers as they migrate to deeper water to eventually winter there. Many of the Lake Erie tributaries are getting concentrations of channel catfish in stretches that are 30-40′ deep.
Leen Meyer (above), from EasyInsure was fshing with his borther Dain when they ran into some channel catfish. The “cats” won’t be there long and will probably disperse in deeper water before the end of Nov. Many anglers that are targeting walleye and trophy smallmouth bass at those depths are getting surprised by hooking up on this hard fighting fish that often fight like a large walleye. No bait necessary. Channel catfish can be very aggressive and regularly hit jigs presented for other fish.
