Casting Gotcha lures for Jack Crevalle, Florida.
Posted on March 24th, 2021I just had a great time filming casting Gotcha lures and fast swimming/jigging back to the boat about 10-15′ down over 40′ artificial reefs in southwest Florida. Jacks love to feed in schools and devour schools of 3-4″ baitfish just below the surface. That’s a perfect time to fish the Gotcha lure.
For best results I fish a full spool of 20lb. test braid and add a 14-16″, 60 lb. Sufix Fluorocarbon leader followed by a 6″, 44lb steel leader and then the Gotcha lur in either size 7/8 or 1 oz. I find the 20 lb. braid casts far enabling me to work the lure for the longest period of time in the “strike-zone”. Hits are violent and Jacks like to run the opposite way and swim horizontally below the surface making them excellent sport on a 7″ Toadfish spinning rod and BOOM 1.0 spinning ree
All the artificial reefs along Florida’s south-west coast in 30-40′ of water from Tampa all the way down to Boca Grande Pass, Fl will hold good numbers of Jacks from now and right through the summer months.
