Brown Trout fishing remains excellent in Niagara, ON Whirlpool.
Posted on December 9th, 2011[nggallery id=651]It really looked like Christmas this morning as the snow fell for many hours on the Niagara Peninsula. I took advantage of the conditions and took my pup Mulligan and headed down to the Niagara Whirlpool. We did no get there until after 12 noon. There were about 6-8 anglers working the current breaks and I watched one angler land 2-brown trout.
Water levels were on the high-side and clarity was about 15-20″. I used the Rapala R-Type 13′, 3-piece steelhead rod with the new Rapala R-Type Center Pin reel with Sufix Titanium yellow 8 lb. test line and Sufix fluorocarbon leader.

I fished my favorite lure at the Whirlpool, a 4″ bunny-strip streamer under a slip bobber. I ended up on fishing about 2 hrs. and landed two nice browns.

Gino Tortorici from Hamilton, ON introduced himself and helped me take a picture of one of my fish. I had to take a picture of Gino holding a fish so he could remember the afternoon. Gino also fished the 4″ bunny-strip streamers which he hand tied (and did an excellent job), and caught two trout, 1-brown and 1-rainbow earlier in the day. Gino also steelhead fishes on the Grand River at the Caledonia Dam and catches lot’s of rainbows especially on the Luhr Jensen KwikFish.
