Bringing Back Brookies to Upper Credit River, Caledon, ON.

Posted on October 11th, 2015

Trout Unlimited Canada’s Greg Clark Chapter is attempting to obtain funding for a restoration project they are undertaking on the Credit River in Caledon, ON.

The portion of Credit River at the project site (Upper Credit Conservation Area) has been impacted by historical pasturing activities resulting in an over-widened stream with limited riparian (shoreline) cover. Together, the lack of shading vegetation and the wide and shallow flows result in increasing water temperatures which is detrimental to the river in general and Brook Trout in particular.

The chapter’s project, Bringing Back Brookies, spanning five years (2015 is year 1) involves the construction of in-stream structures to capture natural sediment that will create new banks and narrow the river, construction of in-stream habitat structures, and planting of trees and shrubs on the river banks.

The Greg Clark Chapter have entered the project into the Aviva Community Foundation’s online voting system as part of pursuing funding for 2016. Voting is open until October 23, 2015. Votes can be placed on a daily basis to a maximum of 18 votes until the October 23, 2015 closing date. After voting, the top entries make it onto the final round.

Trout Unlimited is asking for the public to take a moment to vote for this project.  You can place your vote for this project by clicking here.

Please Note: You will have to create an account (name and email address) before placing your first vote.
