Braid vs. mono lines for ice-walleye.
Posted on January 21st, 2016With so many lines on the market each having special features to offer it’s tough to choose the best performing line for ice fishing. I love to use the Sufix 832 braid in open water and for ice fishing if it’s not to cold, but if temperatures are really cold (like -15 and lower, especially with a strong wind chill), on the ice I choose to go with a high-visibility monofilament line like the Sufix Seige which I use for cold-water/weather steelheading.
I find the monofilament line doesn’t build up ice in the guides as fast as the braid. I like the high-visibility to be able to watch it for “soft-takes” and I also add a Sufix Fluorocarbon leader for the first foot or so from my lure.
