Bluefish are one of the most aggressive fish we can target using light gear in Southwest Florida. They may not be huge, averaging 1-4 lb., but they make up for their size by their aggressive nature! They feed in packs and strike hard and turn at the same time definitely giving the angler a “hello”!
We did well today casting and trolling for them using 3/8 oz. spoons, but lost more fish than we landed. The key was to target them on the flood-tide when they move in from the Gulf and feed on shallow flats. They move in quickly and leave quickly so it’s important to fish fast before they are gone.
Besides being great sport they are also very tasty, especially grilled fresh!
