Big Spanish Mackerel, Charlotte Harbor, FL.

[nggallery id=849]I had the pleasure of fishing again with Izzy and Shoshana Avramovitz for some mackerel and bluefish.  Winds were howling, waves rolling, but we still managed to catch some trophy Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish trolling Rapalas and Blue Fox spoons in Charlotte Harbor, near the Cape Haze Reef, Fl.   The 19’6″ centre-consul I re-build has been working great on both the Gulf of Mexico, up to 15 miles out, and in the shallows of Charlotte Harbor.

We used the Rapala Magnum Baha saltwater pack rods with Rapala spinning reels outfits loaded with Sufix 832, 10 & 15 lb. and Terminator Titanium leaders.  We caught all of our fish trolling in 4-5′ of water, right on the reef. With waves reaching 3′, it made trolling at 3mph very challenging, but we pulled it off.

Besides the great fishing, there is just something about being out on the salt water and just enjoying the warm, fresh air and of course fishing with friends.
