Big redfish, Port Charlotte, FL.

Posted on February 22nd, 2013

Winds were blowing strong today so I made the decision not to venture out miles into the Gulf of Mexico.  Our good frined Mike Scarlett took the opportuity to invite to fish some of the “back-country” waters in Charlotte Harbor, Fl for some trophy redfish.  Mike had fished the day before near the mouth of Turtle Bay casting jigs & plastic grubs along the mangrove when he and some of his guests tied into some really big fish, but could not land them.  So, today he decided to fish the same shorelines.

We headed out late, arund 12noon and fished for a few hours working our jigs and Rapalas along the mangroves with our Concept Ti & Shift outfits equipped with Sufix 832, 10 lb. test braid and Sufix fluorocarbon leaders.

Our lures of choice were the TriggerX Paddle Tail Minnows and TriggerX Tubes, along with the Rapala Skitter Walk and Rapala BMX Minnow.  Mike ended up catching one of the largest redfish he has ever landed in the Bay.

Tomorrow I hope to get out with Mike and Izzy on the Gulf of Mexico to chase those bluefish, mackerel and a variety of reef fish.
