Big panfish smash big lures.

I love to fish for a variety of fish. Everything from trophy fish to what I like to call “big small-fish”. Yes, I’m referring to chunky panfish like Pumpkinseed and Bluegill.

While most of the time I fish for these using ultralight outfits, light line and small plastic grubs and fish, there are times in late summer when they are very aggressive and will regularly strike large lures meant for Walleye and Bass.

I find these aggressive, larger Panfish especially off weedline, weed-beds and rock-piles in open-water. Recently we were fishing in eastern Lake Ontario and kept catching them trolling for Walleye.

It’s nice to know that if the Walleye fishing is slow you can always take home a bunch of eating size Panfish!
