[nggallery id=649]While lots of anglers were heading out on the Lower Niagara this weekend at daybreak to catch migratory rainbow and brown trout Kam Anderson and I decided to fish for nice-size perch again. Water clarity was excellent and there were lot’s of emerald shiners near shore that I caught all the baitfish we needed with just one dip. We anchored again in 18-22′ of water and the action started right away. We ended up fishing for about 5-hrs and landing about 80-jumbo yellow perch between us and a half dozen white perch. Winds picked-up, rain passed through, but the perch just kept on biting right up until we left. All of our fish were caught within 1′ of the bottom and they were hitting lightly. I used the Rapala Walleye series medium-light action spinning outfit matched with an R-Type spinning reel and Sufix 832 10 lb. test line. Kam used the Rapala Finesse series light-action outfit matched with a Rapala Volt spinning reel and Sufix 842 braid. All of our fish were caught fishing pickerel-rigs right on the bottom.
