Big Cuda, small lure.

Posted on August 3rd, 2017

Big Barracuda remind me a lot of trophy musky and pike in our freshwater lakes. Cuda’s have more teeth, they hit more aggressive and they fight much harder than their freshwater counterparts often running out 50 yds at a time jumping several times out of the water.

On a recent trip we were casting lures for Spanish Mackerel over 70′ of water in the Gulf of Mexico when we started getting Barracuda grabbing our hooked Mackerel and taking 3/4 of the body off in one, quick swipe. On one occasion Darren Farella tied onto a big Cuda that ended up weighing around 50 lb.

Check-out what was left of his lure after the fight….nasty teeth can destroy metal!
