BC Steelhead fishing report.

Posted on April 23rd, 2016

Noel Gyger reports. Light rain with highs to +16 degrees Celsius. Kalum River is murky and fishing for Steelhead is difficult (BUT still possible); guiding started April 1st.

This rising water should bring in fresh runs of Chinook (King) Salmon then you have a chance to catch both Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. WOW it does not get any better that that! Skeena River in poor to fair shape due to heavy rain and snow melt off. Zymoetz (Copper) River is dirty from the rain and snow melt off. Reg: No Fishing upstream of the sign at the transmission line crossing (downstream of Zymoetz Canyon) Jan 1 – June 15. Steelhead fishing below this closure is still permitted. Just need to find some open water and give it a shot. Kitimat River is finally starting to clean up after the rains and fishing for Trout is picking up; with the rain and high water should bring in lots of Steelhead. Ocean fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Prawn and Crab good out of the ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert.
