Balsam Lake, ON late summer walleye.

Posted on September 22nd, 2017

While you hear of many anglers catching Kawartha Lakes, ON walleye in the lower Kawartha’s like Tri-Lakes and Lake Scugog and Rice Lake, we seldom hear of anglers successfully targeting and catching Balsam Lake walleye. Balsam Lake is the highest of the Kawartha Lakes and has some of the clearest water. This makes fishing challenging for many anglers.

Out good friend Mark Wilson sent us these images of walleye he has been catching there bottom-bouncing harnesses in 16-24′ water.

Surface water temperatures have been all over the place with temps dropping to 63F last week and than bouncing back to 70F this weekend. I have a feeling that the walleye fishing will continue to be good and that as waters cool off again they will move back to shallower waters to feed, especially at night.
