ASA renews commitment to get more Americans outdoors.
Posted on January 12th, 2023The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) – the body that represents the recreational fishing industry – has underlined its commitment to get more people outside and on the water.
The renewed pledge comes as a report revealed that in 2021 the outdoor recreational industry generated $862 billion and led to the creation of 4.5 million jobs, which equals three per cent of all workers in the US. The total economic output value is 1.9 per cent of the nation’s total GDP.
Boating and fishing led the conventional outdoor recreational activities among current dollar value added at over $30 billion (2020: $27bn).
The ASA said that it recognises the important value outdoor recreation has across the US. “We are proud to be part of an industry which plays a critical role in growing our nation’s economy.
“The sector’s contribution to the US economy is greater than the amount contributed by other notable industries such as oil and gas extraction, mining, agriculture and computers and electronics.
