A much anticipated annual spring trip for father & son!

Each, spring for the last many years I have made a point of visiting a local trout pond in Waterford, ON to allow my son the opportunity of experiencing some exciting fishing action for Rainbow Trout. We bring light tackle and line for these outings, and the fish typically range in the 2 to 4 pound range with fish up to 7 lbs. on occasion. The owner operator of Triple T Trout Farm is Tony Vangalen. Tony also has his wife involved in the business. On our trip recently my son landed his largest fish of the trip using a minature white marshmellow, with a couple of split shot placed up the line – the fish weighed just shy of 4 pounds. In total 4 fish were caught by my son with the remaining three fish coming in around 2 lbs a piece. Over the years I have received on a few occasions some negative comments from people I know regarding fishing at a stocked trout pond. The comments fall into the category of this activity is somehow less worthy than fishing in a public lake or river. My response is that it really has no bearing on my son’s enjoyment when he has a hard fighting fish on the end of his line and the bonus for me is the quality time he and I spend together doing something we both share a passion for and that is fishing! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the vast majority of our fishing takes place in public waters however my son continues to request a return some trips to Tony’s! This tradition I hope we can continue on for many more years to come.
I can assure you that for anyone who thinks catching fish at a stocked trout pond is easy with fish being caught on every cast this is not necessarily the case and you might be rather surprised at how challenging it is to get these fish to bite your offerings depending on the conditions.
