Hi Marc, first of all you should find a hard-bottom area (sand, clay, rock, pebbles, etc.), where you believe carp move in to feed. That area will be much better then fishing a weed/mud bottom where they may have a more difficult time finding your bait. As far as distance from shore goes 30-50′ should be a good distance in water ranging from 4-15′ deep. I would suggest you only bait with about a “fist-size” amount of sweet corn kernels or ground-bait that you purchase and mix with water and the corn. The ground-bait is a fine grain and it disperses better and really spreads the scent to attract and not to fill-up any carp that move in. Carp Zoom is available in many tackle stores and has a good variety of ground-bait and carp baits and accessories. Once you pick your chum-area, make sure to make a cast with your bait in the center of it…God bless you.

Hi Alex, it’s about location. The carp you are seeing are cruising but necessarily feeding in those areas otherwise you would be catching them. I suggest you fish ares for them that has a harder bottom in pockets away from the area where you see them cruising over weeds. Carp for the most part are not too fussy when they are feeding especially if you use corn or prepared carp baits either on the bottom or under a float. Before you fish a new area is also helps to “mat” the bottom with some ground bait to bring them in and keep them there fore a while…God bless you.

I have always used canned sweet corn kernels for carp fishing. I am sure the salted ones would work too.

Hi Angler, from my experience carp definitely like sweet.

I use sweet corn and when I make my dough-balls often use honey and other sweet additive and they always produce!

Hi Mike, carp should be moving shallow in all waters they are in to stage for spawning.

Hamilton Bay is probably one of the most reliable choices right now. Either fishing the Hamilton pier (Hamilton Bay, south-side), or fishing the La Salle boat launch area in Burlington (end of Waterdown Rd.), are probably the best choices to intercept pre-spawn carp that are still feeding. Both areas have parking and good fishing access….God bless you.

Yes, it’s good there all season long. Not all carp spawn at the same time, so there will be pre and post-spawn fish feeding especially off the south pier where we shot the show.

Hi Michael…Good baits for carp include sweet, canned corn kernels, prepared wheat flour/corn flour dough-bait, & worms. Best places to fish for carp are shallow areas where carp go to when feeding, but fishing on a weed-free bottom so that they can find the bait easier. “Matting”, or “baiting” an area just prior to fishing it really helps to draw carp to it….God bless you, Italo

Hi Ben…Carp is a commonly commercially caught and sold in Ontario, both live and freshly stored on ice. Different species of Asian carp can also be sold here, but they may only be sold dead….God bless you, Italo

HI Pavel…We did the show right in Welland, just south of the Prince Charles St. bridge. There is some municipal land there with cut grass and public access. The river there also has a nice hard bottom which makes it ideal for baiting and fishing….God bless you, Italo
