We just returned from covering the 6th Annual Wikwemikong Ice Fishing Derby held on Manitowaning Bay. It was an excellent event with over 400-contestants. Besides covering the even we also had a chance to ice fish for rainbow trout both on Sat, on Manitowaning Bay and rainbow trout/whitefish in South Bay on the Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve. The fishing is truly fantastic there for rainbows trout. Many of you had a chance to watch the two TV shows we produced there 3-years ago fishing open water for rainbows both trolling shallow water and casting spoons in shallow bays and catching rainbows up to 12 lb.

I just wanted to remind everyone that the Ontario record rainbow trout was caugth by Joanne Vendramin who landed a 40.68 pound rainbow trout (that’s right, over 40 lb!!), caught off the shores of Little Current on September 21, 2005 trolling with a wobbling, minnow lure which is still the official Ontario record fish. There are still rainbows over 40 lb to be caught there.
