I love fishing southwest Florida’s shallow saltwater flats for a variety of fish. On a recent trip I was out with Scottie Martin who presents the Walleye Wednesday feature in social media and we had an excellent time casting jigs to mangrove shorelines in search of Snook & Redfish.
The above Snook smashed a Lunker City Shaker as soon as the jig hit the water. This type of fishing is very challenging since you try and cast a 1/4 oz jig/plastic grub as close to the mangrove edges and under the overhanging branches without getting stuck in the bushes.
Sometimes hundreds of casts are made before you find a feeding fish. When you find one, it usually inhales the jig and the fight is on. That’s when you have steer the hooked fish away from the barnacle-covered Mangrove roots.
