I love fishing the Gulf of Mexico for a variety of fish and when I target King Mackerel which are awesome gamefish and excellent eating, I know that if I want to catch them on live bait I need to find a vary specific baitfish, the Cigar Minnow.
There are several popular types of saltwater baitfish you can catch and use for bait, but the Cigar Minnow with it’s long slender body and erratic swimming action really is the ticket when targetting Kingfish with a live bait fish on the surface.
Challenge though is finding and catching Cigars instead of all the other by-catch small fish. Cigars tend to feed closer to the bottom and are often missed by anglers using low-resolution fishfinders. As you can see from the above image, the Rayamarine eSeries with the CHIRP DownVision screen on the right shows them clearly right on the bottom. When I see them, I can lower my Sabiki rig and in no time I have the best bait to catch trophy Kings!
