Hi Italo,I recently purchased an Okuma Coldwater 350 Low Profile Linecounter Reel and will be using it mainly for trolling walleyes.I struggle with deciding the type of lines I should use for this purpose. I mainly use braided lines with fluorocarbon leader for all my fishing, but not sure when it comes to trolling walleyes.Your advice is greatly appreciated.Thanks,-Dan-Posted on March 13th, 2017
Hi Dan, good question. If you do a lot of big-water (Great Lakes), long-line trolling like off-boards or long-lining, or long-lining with diving devices like Dipsey or Jet Divers with lines out up to 350′ away, I would recommend you go with a braided line and at least a 20′ fluorocarbon leader. You will be able to load more line on your reel, you will get a better diving depth for your presentation and because braid is no-stretch, even with a long-line you will get a good hook-set. If you flat line troll with shorter leads like in smaller, shallower lakes and down only 5-15′, monofilament line will work well like the Sufix Seige.
