Hi Italo,I fish lake Ontario marinas in the fall for pike. During the winter do the pike leave the marinas , if they stay can you catch them on slow moving lures or live or dead bait. They’re are bubblers so the water does not freeze , and are they still there in the spring. Thanks for your advicePosted on January 5th, 2017
Hi Russ, the best time to catch the biggest pike in the Lake Ontario marina basins is late winter right up to March 15 when the fishing season closed for them. I have hooked pike over 20 lb. in early march. I don’t think they stay in the marina basins during early winter, but they definitely move in there in late winter anticipating their early spring spawn.
I use artificial lures for them like the Rapala Husky Jerk and 4-5″ paddle tail swim baits like the Lunker City Shaker or Swimfish. If there is open water around the aerators you should be able to catch them even when the rest of the harbor may be iced-over….God bless you, Italo
