Hi Italo. In early May we will be heading up to Bayside Resort on Manitoulin for our annual rainbow fishing tripLast year we got skunked because the trout were feeding on flies and ignoring Rapalas and roe. As I only have spinning equipment, is there a fly set up that I could use if that happens again this year utilizing my spinning equipment?Often recall the great trip I won to Sunds in 2012Posted on February 16th, 2017
Hi Ted, sorry to hear you got shut-out last spring for the rainbows there. When Barb & I fished there last in open-water we took up our steelhead drift-rods and fished small jig-flies that we fish in the Lake Ontario tributaries under a sensitive float about 6-10′ down right on the drop-off along the shorelines and we were hooking double-headers.
I would suggest taking an assortment of weighted-nymphs and encourage you to order some of the small marabou steelhead jigs in natural colors of black, brown, green & white from www.voodoocustomtackle.com , in the 1/16 oz size. Fish them at different depths under a sensitive slip-bobber and if they are feeding on flies and nymphs you should do OK. Still take the smaller Rapalas for trolling, you never know, this coming May they may be feeding on them!!
