Hi Italo ,do you know if Mattagami lake is a good pike fishing lake in August, my son and I are thinking of going up there this summer. Thanks for helping me outPosted on March 20th, 2017
Hi Russ, Mattagami Lake does have excellent walleye and pike fishing. The best pike fishing will be earlier in the year when the pike are concentrated in the shallower bays and along the shorelines after spawning. In Aug., they will be scattered throughout the lake in water depths form 5-25′ deep. You can still catch a variety of sizes just casting to weedbeds. Many larger pike are caught accidentally while fishing for walleye. The average size is 2-8 lb., but fish up to 20 lb. are common.
