Many ice anglers that may not be familiar with whitefish and Lake Herring may get the two misidentified. Both can vary in size, both are great sport through the ice and they both taste great. Here’s the best tip to identify both.
With the Lake Whitefish above, the upper snout overhangs the lower jaw.
With the Lake Herring image above, the lower jaw is not overhung by the snout.
