I love to surface fish for largemouth bass throughout the summer. What a lot of anglers don’t realize that fall is also an excellent time to catch largemouth on the surface before all the shallow vegetation starts to die and the fish move off-shore.
Bass, like walleye quickly learn that as water temps. get colder frogs start to think about hibernation and go in and out of the water along the shorelines.
When we start to get ice forming on-shore and in the marshes frogs have to decide whether to go down in the mud, or stay in open water.
The ones swimming in open water just off the shorelines are easy target for both bass during the day and walleye at night! One of the most natural swimming action is produced by the Lunker City Salad Spoon. It’s my go-to top-water frog when I’m fishing thick weeds or shoreline edges. And unlike other plastic frogs, the hook-up ration is almost 100%!
