I love “hand-to-hand” battles with big fish, especially on lighter gear. One of the toughest fights in open water is non-other than a good size Jack. I’m talking Jack Crevalle in the 15-20 lb. range hooked in water between 50-60′ deep.
That’s exactly what we encountered when fishing large live bait on the surface and having schools of Jacks pass through and literally smashing out baits as soon as they hit the water. Our good friend Mike Scarlett was up for one more fish before heading back to Ontario hoping to get sore-wrists. His wish came true. He landed several trophy fish in just a few hours!
