Just had to post one more pic from the Steelhead fishing this spring. Featured image is Tracey Hittel of Kitimat Lodge showing us again how to pose the perfect “Keep-em-Wet”. Well done Tracey, now we start to focus on catching Chinook, Chum, Sockeye, Pink…and on and one it goes. Oh and summer-run Steelhead on the Skeena River.
Noel Gyger reports. A mix of sun and clouds with highs to +18 degrees Celsius. This stretch of “hot weather – now rain” is causing major show melt which is bringing up the rivers BUT as of today they have started to clean up. The majority of the snow melt is down. Kalum River Steelhead are in the river now Chinook are in the river now. You can fish for them in the lower end only. You now have a chance to catch both Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. WOW it does not get any better that that! Guiding started April 1st. Please remember if you are going to let them go “Keep-em-Wet”! Note: Kalum has 4 runs of Steelhead, fall, winter, spring and summer. Skeena River in a brown colour and fishing is difficult BUT cleaning up as it has been dropping over the last week. Zymoetz (Copper) River ~ Steelhead are in but water is too high and dirty to fish. Kitimat River Steelhead fishing is mostly over and now the fresh Chinook have started to come in; lots of Trout fishing available also. Ocean fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Prawn and Crab good out of the ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert.
