We fished mostly structure breaks from 15-30′ of water using VMC 1/4 oz. jigheads rigged with stinger hooks. My wife Barbara fished a live minnow, while I fished some of the new TriggerX soft-plastic minnow grubs. We both used the Rapala Walleye Team rods matched with Rapala reels spooled with 10 lb. test Sufix 832 braided line.
To locate our walleye I too along a new Humminbird 570 portable sonar. Marmac Lodge uses beautiful 16′ Cedar-strip boats equipped with 20 hp. Yamaha 4-stroke motors and very comfortable fishing seats and they even have rod-holders for your rods!
My wife Barbara caught all of the larger walleye that measured 20″, 22″, & 26″. All of the larger walleye were released, but we did keep about 5-walleye & 1-24″ pike for our shorelunch. Bob Bagnall, our guide put us on to the fishing areas and also made a quick & delicious shorelunch.
Tomorrow it’s off to do a trohpy Pike TV show and we are looking forward to using Lucky Strike spoons & spinners and several new Rapala lures.
