The Lower Grand River south of Dunnville, ON is definitely on of southern Ontario’s top early season Channel Catfish grounds. Anglers start fishing the river in March and catch trophy Channel Catfish right through the summer with the peak being months being April/May. If you have thought about hooking one of these trophy fish, from shore or from a small boats, now is the time to do it. With recent heavy rains, the Grand will be murky and will have higher flows than normal. It’s best to let the river recede to it’s normal flow & turbidity before you head out.

Hello
I have never fished the Grand River but I was just wondering if you knew anything about catching Channel Cat’s in the winter months? I can only assume it would most likely be a lot slower fishing with less results, but if you had any advice/tips and hotspots for shore fishing the Grand River I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you

Hi Adam…I have never heard of anyone hooking channel catfish in the winter time on the Grand. I have heard of them catching carp, but not channel catfish. I have a feeling that the channel catfish head to the deepest water they can find and that they lay on the bottom very lethargic….God bless you, Italo
