Our TV shoot started early again today to try and get some productive fishing in before the forcasted, strong winds picked-up. We headed out of the harbor at 6:15 am and started trolling with the Rapala X-Rap #12 as soon as we met the open water. Ocean rollers were already starting to break along he shoreline and we decided to head toward the 3-islands that are a well known landmark in front of Mazatlan, Mexico. It took a couple of hours before we found the fish and suprisingly enough, we caught our first Spanish Mackerel right in front of the harbor entrance. We kept the first fish so that the staff at Serena Residences could prepare it for us at lunch. The Mackerel was a sign of good things to come. Within 1hr. we spotted flocks of Pelicans and diving birds that were grouped together just off the beach. This signaled that they were waiting for gamefish to push the baitfish to the surface. Lewis, our guide quickly maneuvered the boat towards the birds and immediately we spotted hundreds of 4-5 lb. Jacks break the surface feeding on baitfish. The excitement was fast and furious with fish and birds trying to feed on the frantic baitfish. We managed to hook-up about 5-Jacks before the school disappeared again.
Besides the in-shore fishing, my wife Barbara and I also took some time to check out the Marina Golf Mazatlan course located right in front of Serena Residences. The course is brand new and has only been open for a year. It’s in great shape and we are looking forward to playing a couple of rounds there before we leave Mexico.

Hi Karen…It’s easy to have big smiles here in Mazatlan, Mexico. The weather has been 80F each day. The saltwater and freshwater fishing has been excellent and the accommodations/food, world class! We are already planning to be back this coming November to chase those Marlin. Maybe you will be able to join us. Let me know when the American Shad start to run….God bless you, Italo
