My wife Barbara & I spend Saturday travelling across Lake Simcoe, ON in search of actively feeding whitefish. We started by checking the waters north of Georgina Island, about 4 miles out from the Virginia Beach, ON access. Fishing was slow there and no one had hooked a whitefish. We received reports that some whitefish were being caught out from Beaverton, ON, but with no reliability. On Saturday afternoon we made the long run with our Yamaha 4 x4 to waters on the west-shore of Lake Simcoe, about 2 miles out from Snake Island. Within a few minutes of getting there we saw the first whitefish landed in about 75′ of water. The next day the camera crew, Tom Moore and Jeremy, from Burlington Cycle (joined us with another Yamaha Grizzly 4 x 4), and James Beaupre, a trohpy Lake Simcoe whitefish angler. We followed James to an area where he had caught lots of whitefish two days prior and with the help of one of his fishing friends, we were catching whitefish by noon.
Â
We covered a few miles to locate the fish and thanks to our Yamaha 4 x 4’s it made it easy. Barbara ended up landing 3-trophy fish using the Blue Fox Lil’Foxee Jigging Minnow fished in 100′ of water.  The end result, one dynamic TV show!!

Hi Silvio…The only place on Lake Simcoe where the whitefish action has been consistent is on the west-side, out from the Ennisfield Beach Road area (anywhere from the 4th to the 9th line). When you get on the ice, you will see the whitefish anglers 1/2 way between the west shore and Fox & Snake Island fishing in 70-100′ of water. Before you head out, I would really encourage you to call Vito at http://www.lovetofishsimcoe.com , ( 705-456-8745 ), Bait & Tackle shop. He will be able to give you the most current news on where they are catching them….God bless you, Italo

Hi Edson…Hope I’m not too late for your answer. I was without high-speed internet at Cardon Lodge, Mexico (fishing El Salto lake for trophy largemouth). The key for catching the whitefish is to jig within a foot of the bottom and often letting your jig/spoon sit on the bottom for a split-second before jigging again. My wife Barbara caught 3-nice whitefish on our last outing and she caught them all using the Blue Fox Foxee Jiggin’ Minnow in the 1/4 oz. size. She did not tip it with bait or plastic and just shook-it on the bottom. For the lakers, it’s best to use a flashy spoon and try to cover at least the last 20′ of water. Lakers can feed suspended at all depths in the winter time. Hope you catch some fish….God bless you, Italo
