Credit River, ON (Canada) – Fishing Report
Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Nov, 28th 2011

Started the day making some brown trout row sacks, peach and pink coloured sacks, then headed down to the Credit River with my friend Kevin Clarke. We both were running 8lb main line with 4 gram floats and 4lb maxima lead line. Put about six No. 4 bb sinkers rite below the float and six No. 2 bb’s rite above the P-Line micro swivel then a 2 to 3 foot lead with a No.10 raven hook. Only took about five drifts before I lost my first fish of the day then rite after that Kevin losses a fish, re-ties his hook, and catches his first steelhead ever. About ten minutes after moving I land the beast in the picture. Conditions were perfect, overcast sky’s with a temperature of 7 degrees and no wind. Water was clear also even though it rained yesterday.

Terrace, BC fishing update.
Monday, November 28th, 2011

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm .

Noel Gyger reports.

Commentary: Winter came early this year.  The cold temperature and heavy snow falls have made the fishing difficult but not impossible.  If you go stay warm and dry and be safe. Good Luck…

Skeena River: Water is clean. Some great Steelhead can still be had. Plus some good Trout Fishing. Reg: Coho fishing will end October 31st. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.

Kalum River: Both the lower and upper sections are in fishable shape. The lake is still stained with a little colour. It has been cleaning a little bit each day by mid winter it should be perfect. A good run of Steelhead is in the river now. I have reports of some good catches.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, Trout is fantastic.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is in good shape but lots of snow to contend with. Too bad as the Steelhead fishing has been excellent. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, let’s hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Fishing for Coho closes today October 31, 2011. All that is left to do now is fish for local Trout.

Jumbo Perch, migratory brown and rainbow trout action good in lower Niagara River, ON.
Monday, November 28th, 2011

I had a chance to check-out the fishing conditions on the Lower Niagara today with my good friend Cliff Zaturski.  We arrived at the Queenston, ON boat launch around 11:30am and the parking lot near the boat launch was crowded due to many shore anglers fishing for migratory brown and rainbow trout.  I spoke to a few of them who reported the fishing was slow.  Water clarity was about 2′ which is ideal for trout fishing.  One of the anglers told me that they were releasing water from the Canadian power generation reservoir and that information was verified later in the afternoon by a regional police officer checking-out the boat launch area.  That extra water being released really affected the current breaks at Queenston.  I have a feeling that is what put the trout bite off.

Cliff and I had our sites on catching some jumbo perch for dinner so we proceeded to launch the G3 and head north to a nearby current break.  Upon arrival I could see that the current breaks there too were unpredictable.  We anchored in 18-20′ of water and started fishing small live minnows near the bottom.  Almost immediately Cliff started hooking one jumbo perch after another.  The perch were definitely there and in good numbers.  We ended up landing about 4-dozen good-size jumbo perch, 4-good size white perch and a nice 5 lb. female rainbow.

Lower Niagara River, ON fishing update.
Saturday, November 26th, 2011

Aldo Nava operator of www.niagarafishingadventures.com has been busy guiding on the Lower Niagara River and reports that he is consistently catching migratory brown and rainbow trout.  One of the most productive stretches has been on the NY side knows as the Art Park drift (from the Queenston/Lewiston bridge, north to the Art Park, NY boat launch).  Best presentation has been bottom bouncing fresh salmon or trout spawn-sacks or TriggerX single eggs using a 3-way bottom walking rig with a 1 oz. pencil sinker and a 24” leader.  If you would like to book a guide fishing trip with Aldo you can contact him through his website.

Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and Meziadin North, BC Fishing Update.
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Noel Gyger reports:

Skeena River:

Water is clean. Some great Steelhead can still be had. Plus some good Trout Fishing. Reg: Coho fishing will end October 31st.  Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.  Sockeye fishing is great. News: The Sockeye run on the Skeena is predicted to be low this year but chart below shows an above average run has come-in so far. Reg: Sockeye limit: 2 per day. 0 per day from a boundary sign on the north bank of the Skeena River 100m upstream of the confluence with the Kitwanga River downstream to Mill Creek.

Kalum River:

Both the lower and upper sections are in fishable shape. A good run of Steelhead is in the river now.  I have reports of some good catches.

Zymoetz (Copper) River:

Despite the cold and snow a couple of my friends fished the lower end and did very well for Steelhead. I hope the send me some pics. If the road is plowed they will be able to fish the upper end as the winter goes on.

Kitimat River:

Kitimat River has dropped and is in good shape.  Coho closed October 31st so time to get your Trout gear out.

Douglas Channel: NOTICE: DFO closes recreational halibut fishery as of Sept. 5. The Douglas Channel is still producing some Coho but it is a situation of being in the right place at the right time.  Most of the Coho will be migrating to their spawning rivers but can still be caught by the Saltwater anglers. We also received reports of Bottomfish still being caught further down the Douglas Channel.  Weather conditions will start to be more of a factor but fishing for Coho and Bottomfish in the Douglas Channel can still be very productive. Dungeness Crab trapping this time of year is usually very good as the Crab are stacking up at the river/creek mouths expecting a feed of dead spawned out salmon.

Prince Rupert:

Hi Noel, With the Coho fishing winding up in the ocean and fall is upon us, there are still lots of opportunities to take advantage of the superb prawning and crabbing that is available right in the Prince Rupert Harbour. So don’t put that gear away just yet. While you wait for your traps to fill up try your hand at Trolling for the Residential Winter Chinook that frequent our waters. Good luck and Tight Lines, Jeff Carlson of J&E Tackle Shop

Saugeen River, ON Fishing Update.
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Wayne Sheridan reports: Andy and Mario went fishing in Southampton at Denny’s dam this past weekend and Andy caught and released a beautiful 12lb female brown trout. It was full of eggs and obviously heading up the Saugeen River to spawn. They also caught numerous 2-4lb rainbows. They originally were using roe sacks but weren’t getting any action, but then switched to single cured eggs and the action really picked up.

River Flow Rates: moderate. Visibility clear, visibility 9ft.

River Levels: Saugeen River (above Durham)  at 1.27M, Saugeen River (Walkerton)  dropping at 9.674M, Saugeen at Port Elgin dropping at 7.819M, Sauble River (Sauble Falls) dropping at 1.200M, Sydenham River (Owen Sound) dropping at 5.011M, Maitland River (above Wingham) dropping at 10.056M, French River at Woseley Bay at 186.691M, Bronte Creek near Zimmerman dropping 5.953M, Credit River at Streetsville steady at 4.528M, Credit River at Orangeville down at 11.104M, Grand River (Doon), dropping at 4.107M (below Shand dam) dropping at 1.614M, Rideau River at Ottawa dropping at 2.70M, Ottawa River at Britannia at 57.801M

Prime Fishing Times: Saturday November 19th, 2011: 5:38 am to 8:04 am (moon overhead) and 6:03 pm to 8:29 pm (moon underneath). Moonrise 12:25am, moonset 1:09 pm

Flyfishing: crayfish, bloodworms, worms and minnows for larger trout. Use roe for rainbow and steelhead, single eggs seem to get the best results.

Great Lakes Fishing: Best lures are purple/black Lyman’s with silver specks and Lucky Strike spoons. Also, Rudy Hachey won the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular using his trusted white ladder-back Lyman lure with a 21.16-lb (9.53 kilogram) Chinook salmon. Nice fish!
