G2 – Transition from Hardwater to Openwater – just around the corner.
Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Transition from Hardwater to Openwater – just around the corner.

Well the winter is rolling along quite smoothly, with our clients catching hundreds of Walleye on the Bay of Quinte….However, just around the corner is the start of Open water fishing for Monster Steelies on the
Niagara River (March to April).

During this time of year the river has an incredible run of Steelies that has clients catching numerous Steelies
a day with some of them reaching 15 to 16 lbs. After that, we quickly jump into walleye (May till June) where
we start to target Spring contour fishing for Walleye on the Bay of Quinte. Hitting resident walleye from 3 to 10lbs
and numbers reaching 20 to 30 per angler a day.

So, even though there’s ice and snow outside, start the thinking process and look at planning a trip so we can get
you on Monster Steelies and amazing Walleye.

Give us a call, you’ll be happy you did.

Cheers, G2Angling…

Yamaha’s Biggest Outboard Launch Ever!
Monday, January 25th, 2010

Prepare for a game changing year in 2010, as Yamaha is proud to unleash a new wave of outboards for all types of boating enthusiasts. From offshore and sport to aluminum and inflatable, Yamaha’s new outboards will enhance every experience on the water.
BIGIMG6973

Leading the wave is our all-new V6 VMAX SHO. A truly revolutionary outboard, the VMAX SHO features a 4.2-litre big bore four-stroke V6 powerhead. Flat out, this new outboard is quicker, stronger, smarter, and lighter than any two-stroke—and features aggressive new styling! The innovative technologies used in the VMAX are adopted by the F225/250/300A offshore models, which also feature an increase in alternator output and faster cruising speed.

In the mid-range and portable classes, we’re excited about our all-new F70A and heavily modified F4A and F6A. Using advanced technologies and features, the F70A is extremely light but powerful, making it an ideal outboard for a variety of lightweight fishing boats. The small and versatile F4A and F6A redefine portable outboards altogether with a “leak free” oil retention system for easier storage.

 THE GAME CHANGER

They said it couldn’t be done. No way could a four-stroke out run a two-stroke. They’re too  heavy, too slow…. The pundits are wrong. For 2010, Yamaha has revolutionized the bass and flats fishing world, introducing the all-new V6 VMAX SHO. (It comprises 250, 225 and 200 horsepower versions.) Yamaha has built a four-stroke that is faster and lighter than two-strokes, not to mention more fuel efficient and reliable.

Under the stylish new SHO cowl lurks an all-new four-stroke, Super High Output 4.2-litre V6 powerhead that provides the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. Four-stroke engines are well known for broad, smooth power curves and incredible torque, and you can expect that and more from the new VMAX SHO. It’s quicker out of the hole, planes quicker than our VMAX Series 2, and achieves higher speed over a measured distance than its predecessor. http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/main.php?LANG=en

Weight loss has been achieved through innovative processes, such as plasma fusion sleeveless cylinders (instead of steel sleeves) to provide a durable surface for piston rings. The cowl and engine pan are constructed of advanced, lightweight composite materials. The VMAX SHO is 34 pounds lighter than its predecessor, making it the lightest production V6 fishing outboard of equivalent horsepower, four or two-stroke. And you can bet that less fuel will be consumed as well—about 12 percent less.

V6 OFFSHORE

The Next Generation

Welcome to a brand new generation of Yamaha’s purpose built, V6 offshore outboards. All-new from prop to cowl, the F300/F250/F225 are the lightest, fastest and most fuel efficient models in their class. At the heart of the beasts is 4.2-litres of big-bore V6 displacement—the biggest  displacement in its class. The benefit is better performance and fuel economy; the surprise is how light they are.

The new V6 F300 is an astounding 246 lbs. lighter than the V8 F300 it replaces, and 51 lbs. lighter than the previous generation V6 F250. Weight savings is achieved with new materials and processes, such as plasma fusion sleeveless cylinders instead of steel sleeves, for a more durable surface for piston rings. A new lightweight composite engine pan is 61 percent lighter than an aluminum counterpart. It also provides more protection against corrosion.

Class leading acceleration comes from the larger throttle valve, intake and exhaust valves. These innovations and more have made the F300 13 percent faster at cruise rpm than other 300hp four-stroke outboards. This is where most offshore models operate. Translation: get there faster with less fuel.

A major feature with the new Yamaha offshore models—especially for those looking to draw large amounts of electrical power—is amperage increase from 45 to 70 amps. In fact, after extensive testing against other brands, the F300 was found to have the best-in-class alternator output. As for control and convenience, the new F300, F250 and F225 work with Yamaha’s new Command Link Plus Digital Electronic Controls, rigging system, and hardware.

ALL-NEW F70A

Big League Technology, Lightweight Package

Yamaha is proud to unveil a new addition to our already full stable of outboards: the F70A. This all-new midrange outboard is lighter than all of its competitors and delivers amazing response and power. Using advanced technologies and materials, the F70A weighs only 260 lbs. (109 lbs. lighter than Yamaha’s four-stroke F75) and pumps out the best horsepower-per-litre in its class.

The powerhead uses a unique four-cylinder, single-overhead cam, four-valve- per-cylinder design. A single cam design saves weight, reduces parasitic losses associated with the friction of having an extra cam and allows the powerhead more intake valve area for higher volumetric efficiency. Lighter pistons offer a higher rpm range (5,300-6,300) for greater power and speed.

Like other Yamaha four-stroke outboards, outstanding fuel efficiency is a valuable trait of the F70A. Yamaha’s multi-point Electronic Fuel Injection System and unique internal engineering helps deliver better fuel economy than that of the F75 or 90TLR. You can expect all of the classic characteristics of Yamaha four-stroke outboards as well; reliability, durability and quiet, odor-free operation. This is an ideal outboard for many different applications and provides great balance with older technology.

Introducing the all-new Yamaha F6A/ F4A portable outboards.

Power. Portability. Performance.

Introducing the all-new Yamaha F6A/ F4A portable outboards. Weighing in as light as 60 lbs., these new portables mean you can have all the benefits you want and need in a portable outboard. Truly compact, lightweight, and easy-to-handle, these pint-sized prot©g©s of our larger outboards are feature packed and offer the outstanding reliability you’ve come to demand from Yamaha.

The big bang of these new portables is in the innovative leak-free oil retention system. This design allows for the outboards to be stored in any one of three horizontal positions, making them even easier to maintain and store.

Available in both 15” and 20” models, they’re among the most fuel-efficient in their class, and all models proudly feature a CARB 3-star rating for ultra-low emissions. http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/main.php?LANG=en

We’ve had monster Walleye and tons of eaters,
Monday, January 25th, 2010

Most clients hitting their limit quite easily.
G2042

We have been out with clients for that last few days, and I might say the fishing has been amazing!! As is typical with the Quinte bite, it has been hot from 7:00am to 10:00am then picking up again from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. During the afternoon we have been heading off the ice with the entire group to have lunch together…I’m telling you what a blast…fishing stories and laughing until your guts ready to burst is sooo much fun. The best part is that we are all energized for the afternoon bite and really pumped and ready to pound the Walleyes all over again. Yah, it really is about catching fish (No matter what they say), but man is it allot of fun getting together with a group of 10 to 12 guys daily.
We’ve had monster Walleye and tons of eaters, with most clients hitting their limit quite easily. We’ve had numerous guys hitting Personal Best Walleye this year, making it even more fun when you see the smile from ear to ear on a client’s face.

We wouldn’t give this up for anything in the world….

There is GOOD ice out there and BAD…just check before you go out and stay safe…

Difference between Lake Herring & Lake Whitefish.
Monday, January 25th, 2010

Ice anglers may encounter both Lake Herring & Lake Whitefish in the same lake.  A good example is Lake Simcoe, ON, where Lake Herring are a protected species and if caught, must be released immediately.  Here are two images below with some notes to help you identify each fish species.

Terrace, BC Fishing Report.
Monday, January 25th, 2010

noel_gyger_graphicNoel Gyger reports.  Weather has been good all week with fairly warm daytime temperatures but it is very windy on the weekend.  I have quite a few reports of folks venturing out for some winter Trout and Steelhead fishing.  The upper end of the Zymoetz (Copper) River is closed to angling (as of December 31, 2009) to protect the “wintering over” wild Steelhead. To be clear just the upper reaches of the river are closed but one still may angle on the very low end, just make sure you fish below the boundary at the first canyon. The Kalum River is open to angling all winter although access to some pools is difficult because of the very low water and snow.  The Kitimat River is open all winter and if we get some warmer weather fishing for Trout should be OK. Winter Chinook fishing in the Kitimat Harbour and Douglas Channel is good right now but is weather dependent. Winter Chinook fishing in Prince Rupert is very good. Lake ice fishing is also good.

If you would like to book a guided fishing trip with Noel, you can contact him at, www.noelgyger.ca .

Low Pressure turning Jumbo Perch on in Lake Simcoe, ON.
Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The action was non-stop from 9am to 2pm and we caught lots of jumbos fishing in 25-35′ of water.   The perch were schooled-up, but hitting very light.  Even though I managed to land a couple of dozen nice-size perch on the W4 Jigging Rapala in the pearl-chartreuse head, most of the bigger perch were caught finesse fishing a 1/8 oz. jighead rigged with a 1 1/2″ TriggerX Minnow.  We again relied on the Humminbird Ice Sonars and most fish that we marked had to be worked and raised 2-5′ before they gently took our bait.  The highlight of the days fishing was the fresh fish fry we enjoyed a couple of hours after we got home!!

Lake Simcoe producing lot’s of perch!
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I had the opportunity of fishing with my daughter Patricia on Lake Simcoe today for jumbo perch.  We headed to the west-side of the lake, just north of Lefroy, ON and walked about 1km out to fish in 25-39′ of water.  The ice was a solid 7″ and we fished the Jigging Rapala in the W3 & W4 size, and a 1/8 oz. jighead and 2″ TriggerX Minnow close to the bottom.  Our Humminbird Ice 55 easily marked our lures and the fish that we caught.

Patricia ended up catching the most perch, and the biggest.  With temperatures shooting above freezing, we will head out to the same area again tomorrow.
