Canadian Sportfishing Insider Club Winner “George Browning’s” positive feedback!
Monday, August 31st, 2009

italo_george_walleyeHi Paul,

I would like to thank you, Italo and all the team at Canadian Sportfishing for a fantastic day of fishing.
We had rain, wind and sunshine all in one day and still caught many fish on just one lure, a Rapala Tail Dancer (now my favourite lure).
Italo taught me many things that will help me catch more fish and a way of casting that allows me to cast farther and also prevent my arm from becoming tired.

Italo is a gentlemen and one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Thank you all for a great day that I will never forget and continued success with the best fishing show and web site in the world.

All the best

George

Chris & Sarah-Jane Rintoul enjoy their prize of Day’s fishing with Italo!
Monday, August 31st, 2009

italo_big_smallmouthThrough our sponsorship relationship with Pioneer Fuels, Canadian Sportfishing provided an auction prize at one of Hamilton’s YMCA fundraisers where Chris & Sarah-Jane Rintoul for the lucky bidders on a Day’s Fishing with me.  Well, it took us quite a while to find a date that worked for all of us, but it finally came to fruition today.  We took advantage of nice weather and head to the Upper Niagara River in Fort Erie, ON.  We met at 8am, ultralight fishing rods rigged with 4″ tube and 1/4 oz. jigheads, and headed north towards Grand Island.  We drifted with the current and fished bars and shoals right in the middle of the Niagara River (Canadian-side), in water that averaged 14-25′ in depth and it didn’t take long for Sarah-Jane to start hooking up on bass.  In fact, Sarah-Jane ended up catching most of which weighed between 3-4 lb..  We took a lunch break from 11:30am – 1pm and had a nice meal at Southsides, right on the Niagara River.  While we ate we met a family that had been trolling on Lake Erie in the morning with crankbaits, but they had no luck.  So, after a short conversation, the Dad was kind enough to take a photo of the 3 of us before we released some of the bass, and than we talked strategy of where they could fish in the River after their meal so that they could also enjoy some tube-jig action.  We headed out again after 1pm and it did not take us long to get into some nice-size fish again.  The action was so hot early an late in the day that on two occasions we landed double-headers of good-size bass.  Chris & Sarah-Jane, I really enjoyed spending the day on the water with the two of you!

Deep Weedlines produce trophy Largemouth Bass in Buckhorn Lake, ON.
Monday, August 31st, 2009

greg_klatt_graphicGreg Klatt reports. Just got off the water from fishing Buckhorn lake and wanted to share this image of trophy largemouth bass I hooked while fishing a deep-water weedline.  While most anglers fish for largemouth bass along the shorelines casting to docks, moored-boats, lily pads, etc., sometimes it pays off to try fishing thick weedbeds that are off-shore.

aaron_white_largemouth Aaron & Danielle  White, Jessica, Dan, & their son Benjamin, and the Bear’s had a chance to rent a cottage on Dummer Lake, near Lakefield, ON.   Having access to a paddle boat, they donned life jackets and grabbed their fishing rods and went exploring on the lake.  Aaron ended up catching the largest largemouth bass, and Jessica Chester caught the only walleye of the trip.  They even caught enough fish for a fish fry!

Canadian Sportfishing Insiders Club Winner – Peter Brennan’s – comments after spending a day on the water with Italo!
Friday, August 28th, 2009

peter_pikeRe: Thanks for a great day!

Italo:  I just wanted to thank you for a very memorable day on the water.  I have not only learned from someone as knowledgeable as you but I have also been given a memory that will last for ever and something to tell my son about when he gets older like my father telling me stories of his fishing past.  I have also gained a few new friends and hope to see you guys again one day soon.  It was a great feeling getting out there and learning about crank baits and presentation and how you should always try something new in life because you never know what you will get.  I now have a new favorite weapon ( what do they call it??)  Oh yeah a taildancer!!  So to Italo, George ( a new friend ), Paul and the rest of Canadian Sport fishing I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you all great sucess in life and everything you do.

Feel free to allow me to return the favour one day.  I know some nice little lakes for icefishing trout!

One other thing for Italo…you made my dad smile again in a long time by me telling him of you and how great a day I had.  I am sure he was thinking of his good ole days.

God Bless you Italo!

With greatest respect
Peter Brennan

Terrace, B.C. Tributary Update.
Friday, August 28th, 2009

noel_gyger_graphicNoel Gyger reports.  The weather has been a mixed bag with sun, clouds and rain. Even with the rain most waters have stayed in shape.  Fishing for Sockeye, Coho, Pink and summer-run Steelhead on the Skeena River is fair.  Spey, single hand fly rod and conventional gear are working well.  The trick is to be on the right gravel bar and fish proper techniques. This is when an experienced fishing guide comes in handy.

480x360-douglas-channel-coho-salmon

Kalum River:   is now closed for Chinook (King) Salmon.  Coho (Silver) Salmon and Steelhead are entering the river now.

Kasiks River:  Coho (Silver) Salmon will soon be here.  Fishing for them at the river mouth where the river meets the Skeena is a good bet now.  A few Coho, by now, will be holding a little ways up-river in deep pools and under trees.  If Coho are there you can usually see them rolling.

EXCHAMSIKS RIVER:  Coho (Silver) Salmon should be coming in the low end now.  Fishing for them at the river mouth where the river meets the Skeena is still a good bet.

EXSTEW RIVER:  Coho (Silver) Salmon should be coming in the low end now.  Fishing for them at the river mouth where the river meets the Skeena is still a good bet.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: The water is in perfect shape and a good number of Steelhead are being caught using Spey, Single hand fly rods and conventional gear.

Insiders Club Winners spend day catching Trophy Walleye, Bass & Pike with me.
Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I just finished fishing the Lower Bay of Quinte with the first two winners of the contest we are running in our Insiders Club where 6-lucky anglers will get a chance to fish with me for the day.  Peter Brennan from the Ottawa, ON area & George Browning, from the Orangeville, ON area joined me on the beautiful Bay of Quinte to fish all morning in the pouring rain, and than to dry up all the wet cloths, we had strong winds blowing as soon as the rain stopped…fun, wow!

Both Peter & George had a chance to experience TV show-quality fishing as we used Rapala crankbaits to fish deep-water weedlines from Sherman’s point, all the way to Lake Ontario.  In a matter of hours we checked enough weedlines that were fishable out of the strong wind, and that also had the right water clarity (we were looking for algae-blooms where we could only see our Rapala Tail Dancers 2-3’ below the surface).  In many areas the water was too clear, and the walleye had not moved-in to feed.  By 10am we started catching fish, and literally caught them right up until 3pm.

We all enjoyed getting to know each other and it’s safe to say that Peter and George are now  â€œofficial” Rapala crankbait master anglers with the photo-credentials to prove it & and “master net-men”.  Our catch included trophy walleye, pike and one huge bass which I landed on a Rapala Tail Dancer #11 fishing deep weeds in 25’ of water in Lake Ontario.

If you have not entered our Insiders Club, there is still time to have a chance to fish with me for the day, just go to our home page and click on the Insiders Club banner.
